Citi names Wenjie Zhang as China country head

Updated: Jun 6

Citi has appointed banking veteran Wenjie Zhang as its new country officer and banking head for China, effective July 2025, pending regulatory approval. Based in Shanghai, Zhang will oversee Citi’s mainland operations and regulatory engagement, reporting to Marc Luet, head of Japan, Asia North and Australia and banking. Zhang brings three decades of corporate and institutional banking experience, including senior roles at Bank of America China, J.P. Morgan, and Credit Agricole CIB. He returns to Citi after a prior tenure with the bank. The appointment comes as Citi continues to pursue a wholly owned onshore securities and futures company in China. With a presence dating back to 1902, Citi serves Chinese corporates, global multinationals, and mid-sized firms across its China network.
