40% of Taiwanese workers face financial difficulties despite wage hike

In Taiwan, workers earned an average monthly wage of TWD47,000 (USD1,443) this year, marking a 5.4% increase from last year, hitting a decade high, according to 104 Job Bank. Despite the rise, 40% of workers are financially struggling, and 18% plan to switch jobs within a year. The highest wages were reported in the technology sector, with computer and consumer electronics manufacturers leading at TWD60,000, followed by semiconductor firms at TWD59,000. Conversely, sectors like social welfare, hair salons, and property management reported lower wages, around TWD38,000 to TWD40,000. The wage disparity is significant, with the highest-paying jobs offering 57% more than the lowest. This economic pressure is contributing to labour shortages and affecting worker satisfaction, as reported by PricewaterhouseCoopers Taiwan.
