AIA Group has secured approval from China’s National Financial Regulatory Administration Anhui Bureau to prepare for the launch of a new branch in Anhui province, expanding its presence in mainland China. The Hong Kong-based insurer plans to commence operations after obtaining final regulatory clearances. Anhui, with over 60 million residents, is experiencing growth in sectors such as new energy vehicles, green industries, and information technology, driving demand for insurance services. AIA operates in major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong, and has expanded to regions such as Hebei, Henan, and Tianjin. In 2020, it became the first wholly foreign-owned life insurer in mainland China. The planned Anhui branch marks its latest effort to tap into China’s growing life and health insurance market.
