Barclays Plc suggests that family offices in Asia can capitalise on a funding gap for climate technologies. While venture capitalists support early-stage innovations, and infrastructure investors focus on large-scale solutions, a funding gap remains, according to Daniel Hanna, global head of sustainable finance at Barclays. Hanna emphasised the significant role and opportunity for Asia’s private offices in scaling climate technology, noting abundant venture and infrastructure capital. Despite the booming private office sector, a 2023 Preqin Ltd. report shows Asia lags in green investments, with only a third of family offices allocating funds to ESG themes. Hanna highlighted Asia’s success in transition finance, aiding carbon-intensive companies in decarbonising, and cited Japan’s transition bonds as a leading example.
