The 2024 Belt and Road Summit, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), convened senior government officials and business leaders to promote business collaboration and explore opportunities along the Belt and Road Initiative on 11-12 September. With the theme “Building a Connected, Innovative, and Green Belt and Road”, the summit expanded its market focus to include more regions, and enhanced multilateral cooperation. HKTDC Chairman Dr. Peter K. N. Lam and Hong Kong Chief Executive John KC Lee delivered the welcome and opening remarks, respectively. Key speakers included Li Yongjie from China’s Ministry of Commerce, Gou Ping of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and Xiao Weiming from the National Development and Reform Commission.
The summit aims to drive sustainable development across Belt and Road markets. Attending the event was Jonathan Watkin, founder of Asia First Financial Insights. “This event, along with other events in Hong Kong this week, demonstrates the vibrancy and active environment for doing business here and within the Greater Bay Area,” said Watkin.
