Binance co-founder turns venture arm into a family office

Changpeng Zhao, known as “CZ”, is restructuring his business operations months after his release from prison. Zhao, whose net worth is USD69.8bn, is converting Binance Labs, Binance’s former venture arm, into YZi Labs, a family office managing USD10bn in crypto assets and co-founder Yi He’s wealth. Ella Zhang, who founded Binance Labs in 2018, has returned to lead the firm, which plans investments in AI, biotechnology, and liquid tokens, ranging from USD500,000 to USD50m. Zhao, 47, resigned as Binance CEO and paid a USD50m fine after U.S. authorities charged him and Binance with failing to prevent illegal activities. Following his September release, he now focuses on impactful investments and education initiatives while Binance separates from its venture capital arm.
