Malaysia's central bank, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), announced on Wednesday that it has imposed penalties on CIMB Bank Berhad, CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, and Maybank Islamic Berhad for prolonged service disruptions. CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic Bank were fined MYR760,000 (USD172,000) for disruptions to their e-banking services on July 29. Malayan Banking and Maybank Islamic faced a larger penalty of MYR4.3m for a similar issue on the same day. The penalties were imposed under the Financial Services Act 2013 and the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013, according to BNM’s statement. These actions highlight BNM’s enforcement of service continuity in the banking sector.
