DBS names first woman CEO

DBS Group Holdings Ltd. announced Tan Su Shan will succeed Piyush Gupta as CEO in March, becoming the first woman to lead Southeast Asia’s biggest bank. Tan, currently head of DBS’s institutional banking group, was also appointed deputy CEO. Gupta, who retires at the next AGM on March 28, is credited with transforming DBS over his 14-year tenure. Tan, 56, was chosen from four contenders and is recognised for expanding DBS’s consumer and wealth businesses. Gupta expressed confidence in her leadership, highlighting her expertise in wealth management and technology. Tan will be the second woman to lead a major Singaporean bank, following Helen Wong of OCBC. Her appointment follows DBS reporting results that exceeded analysts’ estimates, with strong growth in wealth management fees.
