Gen Z investors rely heavily on social media for financial decisions, with financial influencers playing a key role in their investment choices, according to a study by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). The study found that 44% of Gen Z investors favour cryptocurrency, followed by stocks at 32% and funds at 20%. Social media is also a major gateway for fraud, with 73% of investment scam victims deceived through online platforms. While 65% of Gen Z investors use investment apps, only 15% follow traditional methods, contrasting with older generations who prefer securities firms’ research reports. To combat misinformation, the SET has launched investor education programmes and supports credible influencers to enhance financial literacy, warning investors to critically assess online financial advice.
