Foreign firms in HK surge to 9,960, employment rises



Hong Kong hosted 9,960 firms with parent companies outside the city this year, a record high and a 10% increase from 2023, government data shows. These firms employed nearly 500,000 people, up 5% year-on-year, according to an InvestHK and Census and Statistics Department survey. The figures highlight Hong Kong’s recovery and appeal as a business hub post-COVID-19, despite global economic uncertainties. Mainland China, Japan, the US, the UK, and Singapore were top sources for these firms, with regional headquarters rising to 1,410, a 5.5% increase. InvestHK has supported over 500 companies in 2024, up 50% from last year, showcasing the city’s draw for international businesses. Hong Kong’s advantages as a financial and innovation hub continue to attract global firms and investment.
