Global ETF assets reach record USD11.63tr in 2023



The global exchange-traded funds (ETFs) industry achieved a record high of USD11.63tr in assets by the end of 2023, a 25.6% increase from USD9.26tr in 2022, according to ETFGI. December 2023 saw net inflows of USD171.76bn, contributing to a yearly total of USD974.87bn, the second-highest on record. Equity ETFs led with USD532.41bn in net inflows, up 11% from 2022. Fixed-income ETFs followed with USD271.67bn, a 14% increase. In contrast, commodities ETFs experienced USD15.55bn in net outflows, slightly improving from 2022’s outflows. Active ETFs attracted USD183.36bn in net inflows, a 48.3% rise from the previous year. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust topped the inflows in December with USD39.41bn. The ETF industry expanded to 11,869 products from 731 providers across 63 countries.
