Hong Kong's 2023 growth expected near lower end of forecast

Hong Kong's economic growth for 2023 is anticipated to be near the lower end of the government's forecast range of 2.5% to 3.5%, according to Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po. The economy grew by 1.8% in the third quarter, marking the weakest pace in five quarters due to slower exports and spending. However, Chan expects momentum to continue for the rest of the year as market sentiment improves in areas like stock trading and property. Chan also announced that 17 enterprises from mainland China, the United States, and Europe will set up or expand their businesses in Hong Kong, focusing on sectors such as artificial intelligence, big data, life sciences, fintech, advanced manufacturing, and renewable energy.
