HSBC has promoted Chito Jeyarajah as head of investment banking in Asia, effective April 1, the bank confirmed. Jeyarajah, currently head of equity capital markets (ECM) in Asia Pacific, joined HSBC in 2017 from Goldman Sachs, where he was a managing director in investment banking. The appointment is part of a broader restructuring at the Asia-focused lender, which last year announced a global overhaul to cut costs and improve efficiency. Changes include merging its global and commercial banking units and exiting M&A and ECM activities in Europe and the Americas. Jeyarajah’s promotion follows the departure of global co-head of investment banking Matthew Ginsburg in December. HSBC has increasingly focused on expanding in Asia as part of its long-term growth strategy.
