As of September 2024, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) reported a total of 6 million stock investors, up by over 744,000 from 2023. Local investors dominate the IDX, holding 51.5% of shares compared to 48.5% by foreign investors. Individual ownership accounts for 53.3%, while institutional investors hold 46.6% overall. IDX President Director Iman Rachman attributed the growth to strong confidence in the Indonesian capital market despite global and domestic economic uncertainties. The IDX is actively expanding its investor base and exploring new products, including stock endowments (waqf) aimed at younger retail investors. “Retail participation remains high, driven by young investors’ aspirations for wealth,” Iman said.
