Indonesia unveils long-term visa scheme for investors

Indonesia launched a long-term visa scheme to attract foreign investors, President Joko Widodo announced. A 10-year visa requires investments of up to USD10m. The five-year ‘Golden Visa’ requires a USD2.5m company setup, while a 10-year visa requires USD5m. Non-company investors must place USD350,000 or USD700,000 for 5-year and 10-year permits, respectively, in government bonds, stocks, or deposits. Corporate investors need USD25m for a five-year visa and USD50m for a 10-year visa. Investment in the new capital city reduces these amounts. President Widodo said the visa aims to attract “good quality travelers”. Indonesia has granted golden visas to nearly 300 applicants, attracting USD123m. Authorities are also considering special status for foreign nationals of Indonesian descent.
