Several liquidators from Deloitte have been appointed for Tahoe Life, a Chinese-controlled insurer, following regulatory investigations that revealed violations and financial issues linked to its parent company. Marcin Czarnocki, Derek Lai, Forrest Kam, and Oliver Cheng will manage the assets of Tahoe Life, which is incorporated in Bermuda, to protect policyholders’ interests. This decision results from a coordinated effort between Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority (IA) and the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The investigation into Tahoe Life was triggered by an illicit HKD2.2bn investment by Tahoe Group, resulting in substantial financial distress and the inability to secure a new buyer or produce financial reports for 2022 and 2023. Tahoe Life holds about 90,000 life policies, representing a market share of less than 1%.
