Malaysia’s EPF to enhance retirement security amid ageing challenge



At the International Social Wellbeing Conference 2024, EPF CEO Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn emphasised the need for reforms in Malaysia’s retirement income system to address the challenges of an ageing population. He highlighted the necessity for increased coverage and improved retirement income adequacy amidst global trends of longer life expectancy and declining fertility rates. Ahmad projected Malaysia to become an aged nation by 2043 and a super-aged nation by 2057, underscoring the urgency for policy enhancements and infrastructure to support the elderly. The conference focused on income security for retirees under the theme ‘Ageing and Longevity: Towards a Meaningful Retirement’.
