New tax incentives to spur Malaysia’s digital ecosystem

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), under the newly established Ministry of Digital, plans to introduce new Malaysia Digital (MD) tax incentives in May to bolster the country’s digital leadership. These incentives, aiming to enhance the appeal for MD Status and existing MSC companies, include various tax allowances and an investment tax allowance. In collaboration with the Ministry of Digital, MITI, and MOF, these incentives are part of broader efforts to expedite MD approvals, support the PeMangkinMD national e-invoicing initiative, and align with the National MSMEs Digitalization Roadmap (NMD2030). Additionally, MDEC is set to host the Malaysia Digital Expo (MDX 2024) and engage in global exposure and smart city initiatives, alongside focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and internal transformation to prioritise industry ESG standards.
