Philippine central bank chief named one of world’s top performers

Global Finance magazine has named Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona Jr. as one of the world’s top-performing central bank chiefs, awarding him an "A-" rating in its 2024 Central Banker Report Cards. Remolona, who completed his first year as BSP chief in July, was recognised for his decisive actions in combating inflation, including an off-cycle rate hike of 25 basis points in October 2023, bringing rates to a 17-year high of 6.5%. Under his leadership, the BSP has maintained a tight policy stance until a rate cut in August 2024 as inflation stabilised. Global Finance’s report, which evaluates nearly 100 central bank governors annually, highlights Remolona’s performance alongside other top-rated central bankers worldwide.
