The Philippines continues to actively pursue a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) with the US, despite not being a priority for the US due to the upcoming presidential elections, as noted by Trade Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo. Although traditional FTAs have taken a backseat to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) under the Biden administration, the Philippines remains hopeful, supported by American businesses and some US congressional members. The FTA could benefit Philippine exports like garments, electronics, and agriculture. Meanwhile, the Philippines is also engaged with the IPEF, which focuses on trade challenges in the Indo-Pacific region and includes commitments on supply chains and clean energy.
