Singapore eyes stronger ties with Trump administration

Singapore is ready to work with incoming US President Donald Trump and his administration to enhance bilateral ties and fortify the US partnership in the Asia-Pacific region, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated during an official visit to Jakarta. PM Wong expressed optimism about deepening cooperation, recalling Trump’s first term, which included the Trump-Kim Summit in Singapore and the extension of a 1990 bilateral agreement on US military facilities. Trump’s re-election, confirmed after securing key swing states, marks a return to office following a competitive race against Vice President Kamala Harris. PM Wong emphasised America’s role as a vital economic and security partner for South-east Asia, highlighting the longstanding US-Singapore free trade agreement and the significant impact of US investments on regional growth.
