Singapore sees 44.6% surge in financial claims scam cases rise



Singapore's Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (Fidrec) handled 2,162 financial claims from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, marking a 44.6% increase from the previous year despite a 29.5% drop in enquiries to 5,448. Of the claims processed, 64.2% were lodged against banks, finance companies, and credit bureaus, totaling 1,387 claims—up from 998 the previous year. Scam or fraud cases accounted for nearly 60% of claims against this group, with scam-related claims comprising 38% of all cases at 829, a 62.9% rise from the prior period. Fidrec completed 1,728 cases, 84% through mediation, with settlements accepted in over three-quarters of these.
