Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has appointed Atul Bhuchar as the new Head of Transaction Banking Product for its Asia Pacific division. Based in Singapore, Bhuchar will report to Shinichiro Yamazaki, head of SMBC’s Global Transaction Banking Department for the region. Bhuchar, with over 27 years in banking, has held senior roles at DBS, HSBC, and Citibank. Most recently, he was Head of Product at Partior, a blockchain venture backed by Temasek, DBS, J.P. Morgan, and Standard Chartered. In his new role, Bhuchar will focus on enhancing SMBC’s transaction banking services, particularly in cash management and trade finance, to support clients in managing working capital and strengthening supply chains. His expertise is expected to drive SMBC’s strategic initiatives across the Asia Pacific.
