South Korea, Indonesia deepen general insurance partnership

South Korea’s and Indonesia’s general insurance industries are strengthening ties following a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by their respective insurance associations. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration, support overseas expansion, and promote joint research, knowledge sharing, and talent development. The General Insurance Association of Korea noted Indonesian insurers’ interest in South Korea’s climate risk management practices. Both organizations plan to share expertise and expand private-sector exchanges. Since their first MOU in 2012, cooperation has grown, with six South Korean general insurers, including units of Samsung, DB, Meritz, KB, and Hanwha, now operating in Indonesia. The country’s large population, growing economy, and upcoming mandatory vehicle insurance make it a key emerging market.
