South Korea, Thailand push for trade deal in latest EPA talks

South Korea and Thailand are holding the fifth round of negotiations this week to finalise their Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and investment, Seoul’s Trade Ministry said. The talks, taking place in Bangkok from Tuesday to Friday, focus on expanding market access, harmonising trade rules, and strengthening cooperation across 13 key areas, including goods, services, investment, and intellectual property. The EPA, a more comprehensive trade pact than a free trade agreement, was first initiated in March 2023 and is expected to foster stronger ties between South Korea and Thailand, key ASEAN economies. The discussions also come amid a shifting trade landscape, with both sides seeking to navigate US-led tariff actions. Over 90 officials and business leaders are participating.
