South Korean credit cooperatives host UN forum on digital financial inclusion

The Korean Federation of Community Credit Cooperatives (KFCC) partnered with the United Nations to hold an international forum in Jeju last week aimed at enhancing digital financial inclusion. The event attracted ministers from 15 UN member states, financial experts from Japan and Italy, and representatives from global tech firms Google and GSMA. Key discussions focused on expanding financial access and promoting sustainable local development. OECD advisor Pier Luigi Sacco delivered a keynote speech on financial cooperatives, while Seoul National University’s Jeong Hyuk presented strategies to combat regional depopulation. Digital solutions were emphasised by UNESCAP’s Kim Tae-hyung and tech leaders. KFCC Chair Kim In hopes the forum will foster ongoing international cooperation.
