South Korean insurers face losses from LA wildfire

South Korean insurers, led by DB Insurance and Korean Re, are anticipating losses of about KRW90bn (USD61.8m) from the massive Los Angeles wildfire. DB Insurance holds the largest exposure, with 37 policies in the affected regions of Altadena and Palisades, including home and small business coverage. DB Insurance estimates costs at KRW50-60bn, stating the impact is manageable under reinsurance protections. Korean Re faces smaller losses of KRW15-30bn, according to industry estimates. Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, also operating in the area, reported no fire-related claims. The wildfire, which began on January 7, has devastated 24,000 acres, destroyed over 12,000 structures, and remains partially contained. Recovery efforts continue.
