Taiwan’s central bank announced it has no timetable for launching a digital currency, describing the process as “huge and complex”. Public hearings on the matter will be held next year to spread knowledge. The bank has been working on a pilot digital currency to enable payments via digital wallets without using debit or credit cards. While no launch date is set, the bank is improving payment system efficiency through ongoing research. Public hearings and forums next year will inform the public about the currency. The project, requiring extensive communication, will be long-term. Globally, 134 countries are exploring digital currencies, with over half in advanced stages, amid debates over functionality and privacy concerns.
