Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs plans to establish a trade and investment centre in Fukuoka, Kyushu, to support Taiwanese firms expanding in Japan, Minister J.W. Kuo said. Taiwan, a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain, sees Kyushu as a strategic partner due to its semiconductor base. The initiative aims to integrate resources and strengthen cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, and drones. The announcement follows discussions between Taiwan and a Kyushu delegation, including the Kyushu Economic Federation. Kyushu’s “Silicon Island Kyushu” plan prioritises semiconductor development, aligning with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co’s expansion in Kumamoto. Both sides also discussed AI, electric vehicles, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises entering global markets.
