Thailand and China have agreed to waive visa requirements for each other’s citizens starting March 1. This announcement, made during a meeting in Bangkok between Thai Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara and Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, aims to significantly boost people-to-people exchanges. Before the pandemic, China was a major source of tourism for Thailand, Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy. The number of Chinese tourists had dramatically fallen from 11 million in 2019 to 3.5 million last year. The two nations also plan to expedite the China-Thailand railway project and collaborate against transnational crimes, highlighting a deepening of their multifaceted partnership.
