Thailand and Sri Lanka have signed a free trade agreement (FTA) in Colombo to enhance bilateral trade, with Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha witnessing the ceremony. This FTA, the second between the two nations, aims to widen Thailand’s access to South Asian markets and facilitate Sri Lanka’s trade expansion within ASEAN. It also offers Thai companies opportunities to leverage Sri Lankan infrastructure and tax advantages for broader market reach. Additionally, the countries agreed on air travel services and are pushing for visa-free travel to boost air connectivity. Collaborative efforts will extend to clean energy, maritime security, and Sri Lanka’s fishing industry development. Marking a tangible step forward, Thai Airways International is set to begin flights between Bangkok and Colombo on March 31.
