Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in cybersecurity incidents

In 2023, Southeast Asia experienced nearly 43 million cybersecurity threats targeting businesses, as reported by Kaspersky. Vietnam faced the most significant impact with 17.1 million incidents, followed by Indonesia with 14.6 million, and Thailand with 4.7 million. Singapore saw a 67% increase in local cyber incidents, although it had the lowest number in the region, rising from 300,000 in 2022 to 500,000. These statistics, which reflect the penetration of malware through files or removable media, underscore the region’s vulnerability as it grows as a manufacturing hub, and expands its digital economy. Adrian Hia, Kaspersky’s managing director for Asia Pacific, emphasised the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect against sophisticated attacks and ensure continued regional growth.
