Vietnam sees record securities account openings

July saw a significant surge in new individual securities accounts, tripling from the previous month and hitting a two-year high. The Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC) reported a net increase of 329,836 new domestic individual investor accounts, the highest monthly rise since June 2022. In total, domestic investors opened 329,982 new accounts in July. Over the first seven months, more than 1.08 million new securities accounts were opened, 2.75 times last year’s total. Domestic investors now hold nearly 8.33 million accounts, with individual investors making up 99.8%. Foreign investors opened a net 217 new accounts in July, an 18% increase from June. By the end of July, total securities accounts exceeded 8.37 million, about 8.4% of Vietnam’s population.
