Woori returns to investment banking after 10-year hiatus

Woori Investment & Securities, part of Woori Financial Group, has launched as a mid-tier brokerage, marking its reentry into the sector nearly a decade after its previous securities firm was sold to NongHyup Financial Group. The firm, emerging from the merger of Woori Investment Bank and Korea Foss Securities, aims to enhance Woori’s reputation in investment banking. CEO Nam Ki-cheon highlighted the firm’s strategy to leverage group synergies and focus on long-term growth through potential capital increases or mergers. Woori Investment & Securities plans to expand its assets, establish a substantial mutual fund, and cater to over 30,000 high-net-worth individuals by 2026, while integrating services with a new ‘super app’ across Woori’s network.
